Resources to Help You Through 2020

Posted by Adriano Teixeira In: News, Stuff We Like

So you’re living through a Pandemic, chances are you never thought you would go through life with a face mask, but here we are, avoiding crowds, staying in and going through it day by day, wondering on how much of an effect this quarantine is really having on our physical and mental health.

Chuck Palahniuk wrote it best in his popular book Fight Club:We have no Great War. No Great Depression. Our Great War’s a spiritual war… our Great Depression is our lives.”, it didn’t take a Pandemic to show us that society in all its complexities can lead to feelings of alienation, depression and anxiety to name a few, it’s up to each and every one of us to look inwards into what we’re feeling right now and work on building a healthier more balanced version of yourself.

With that in mind, we at NDrive selected a few free resources we believe can help you go through this very particular moment in our collective history.

The Science of Sleep

Matthew Walker is a Professor of Neuroscience and Psychology at the University of California, Berkeley, and Founder and Director of the Center for Human Sleep Science. He’s the author of the book “Why We Sleep: Unlocking the Power of Sleep and Dreams”, in this conversation he goes into some detail about the importance of sleep on our overall health. It’s really engaging and not a snoozer at all, in spite of the theme.

Breathing Matters

James Nestor is a journalist with articles on various prestigious publications. In his recent book Breath: “The New Science of a Lost Art”, he uncovers some of the science behind good nasal breathing and all it can do for you. A great conversation with a lot of resources for you to try out, currently trying it out myself.

Natural Movement

Tony Riddle is a barefoot running natural lifestyle coach, in this conversation he talks about his studies on human physical movement and how modern world commodities impact your health hazardously. Through his work Tony has impacted many lives by changing people’s perception on things like personal environments and overall body movement. There’s something for everyone in this one.

The Power of Suffering

David Goggins is a retired member of the U.S. Armed Forces, he’s the only person who has been through 3 hell weeks on the course of his Navy SEAL Training. Among his athletic achievements he has completed over 50 Ultra endurance races and once held the world record for most pull-ups. In this conversation he reveals his belief in the dark power of suffering to transform oneself and takes you through his personal journey on becoming someone he could respect.

Use Your Hands

I understand this one may be a strange choice, but I heartily believe there is great value and pleasure to be taken from working with your hands. Dashner Design & Restoration is a YouTube channel dedicated to restoring old furniture salvaged from thrift stores, and even if woodwork is not your cup of tea, there’s something undoubtedly relaxing about the narrator’s voice.
